Creamy Orange Smoothie | Easy Healthy Breakfast

This Creamy Orange Smoothie is a refreshing way to start the day (especially those hot summer ones).

Tangy and vibrant fresh peeled oranges, sweet frozen banana and mango (or peaches), and delicious creamy vanilla yogurt and milk. Throw everything into a blender, and you've got yourself a healthy take on an orange creamsicle or Orange Julius. My husband coined this smoothie: creamsicle adjacent.

Perfect for breakfast, or as a midday after lunch refresher.

    Creamy Orange Smoothie

What makes this Creamy Orange Smoothie so delicious?

There's nothing like freshly-squeezed orange juice in the morning. It's so vibrant and refreshing that it helps give you that brain boost needed to wake up fully (or at least it does for me). Oranges are high in vitamin C, potassium, folate, and antioxidants. There are even some studies out there that suggest orange juice may help prevent kidney stones, improve heart health, and decrease inflammation.

This smoothie uses the flesh (pulp + the juice) of oranges as well as other nutritious complimentary fruits such as banana and mango, or peaches. The addition of yogurt and milk make this smoothie incredibly creamy. Honey is also added in to sweeten it up a touch, which balances the smoothie out if you have tart oranges.

    Creamy Orange Smoothie

    Ingredients

    • Oranges, peeled & seeded. Tip: Be sure to use navel oranges or a vibrant orange. It's funny, sometimes when I set out to blog something a weird mishap throws me off. I accidentally purchased Cara Cara oranges, which have a pink flesh. This is called Creamy Orange Smoothie, not Creamy Pink Smoothie. Arghh. All worked out though.
    • Frozen banana. Tip: Peel your bananas and freeze them for this recipe. This helps the smoothie be cold and thick. I don't like freezing bananas with the peel because they get real ugly and soupy.
    • Frozen mango or peaches, depending on preference.
    • Vanilla Greek yogurt
    • Honey
    • Milk, or dairy-free milk such as almond milk. Coconut milk will take away from the orange flavor, but will still taste nice and tropical.

How to make this Creamy Orange Smoothie:

    • Add all of the ingredients to a large blender, starting with frozen banana.
    • Mango
    • Oranges
    • Yogurt, milk, and honey.
    • Blend for a good 1-2 minutes to ensure everything is smooth.
    • Serve immediately, topped with a fresh orange slice if you're feeling fancy.
    Creamy Orange Smoothie

    Equipment:

For this recipe, you will need a powerful blender. I use this budget but powerful Ninja model.

    Storage:

This smoothie needs to be served immediately. Smoothies don't do well when stored in the refrigerator as the ingredients tend to separate some/a film forms on the top. If you make too much, you can store it in the fridge for a max of 1-3 hours and drink it within that time frame.

Notes on this Creamy Orange Smoothie:

    • Use frozen banana - this makes the smoothie really thick and creamy
    • You can lessen or increase the amount of honey based on how sweet or tart your oranges are.
    • If making this smoothie all week long, you can peel the oranges in one go and store them in a gallon bag ready for use. This helps streamline the process.
    • I prefer using Navel oranges in this recipe because they have a classic orange flavor. Some people like to use mandarin oranges/clementines, but I find the seeds are harder to find in those types of smaller oranges. The seeds are easy to locate and pick out of Navel oranges. While you can eat orange seeds, they are bitter, so blending a considerable amount into the smoothie could impact the flavor. (I personally have never eaten an orange seed. Have you?)
    • If you change out any ingredients and add new things in, be sure to use only yellow or orange colored fruits or else the smoothie will change color.
