This Cheese Ball recipe is perfect.

Cream cheese and grated mild cheddar are whipped together with a touch of sour cream until perfectly smooth. Dill, chives, and chopped scallions (green onion) are added in for a refreshing flavor (and gorgeous color!). Then, the cheese ball is finished off by being rolled in chopped pecans. Serve it with crackers, and call it a day.

When To Serve a Cheese Ball:

You can serve a Cheese Ball really for any occasion. I made the one photographed to go with lunch on Christmas Day! It's quick and easy, can be prepared a day or two in advance, and is a crowd-pleaser. Try serving a Cheese Ball for:

    • Parties. Dinner parties, get-togethers, graduation parties, birthday parties, etc.
    • Holidays. This Cheese Ball makes a perfect addition to charcuterie lunch boards for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter, Fourth of July, etc.
    • Game Day. This is the perfect football Sunday or Super Bowl appetizer!
    • Game nights. (The kind of games you play with your family and friends!)

How To Make a Cheese Ball:

    • In a large bowl or bowl of a stand mixer, add the softened cream cheese, grated cheddar cheese, sour cream, and black pepper.
    • Blend until smooth; about 1-2 minutes.

Finn likes to watch me cut the cheese. 😉

    • Fold in the chives, dill, and chopped green onion until well-combined.
    • Refrigerate in a bowl for one hour. *I place plastic wrap on the surface of the cheese mixture to prevent any drying out.
    • After the cheese mixture has been refrigerated for one hour; place a large square of plastic wrap on the counter. Scoop out the cheese mixture and place it in the center of the plastic wrap. Then, gather the sides of the plastic wrap around the cheese mixture and shape it into a ball. Once satisfied with the shape, carefully peel the plastic wrap off.
    • Add chopped pecans to a large plate and set the cheese ball down on top of it. Roll the cheese ball in the chopped pecans, lightly pressing, until the sides are completely coated. You can fill in blank spots by picking up the chopped pecans and pressing them into the ball.

    • Serve with crackers. *Refrigerate this cheese ball, covered in plastic wrap, until ready to be served. You can make this recipe 1-3 days ahead of time.

    Notes:

    • Not a fan of pecans? You can try swapping them out for sliced almonds.
    • Keep refrigerated until ready to be served.
    • You can make this recipe 1-3 days in advance.
    • I served this recipe with gluten-free crackers, but you can use any variety of plain/salted crackers that you like! Just avoid heavily flavored crackers, such as cheddar flavored, roasted red pepper, Asiago, etc.
